Spyder 003
Spyder 003 occupies a special place within the Devaux story as one of the open cars that most clearly expresses the romantic, pre-war aero inspiration behind the marque. In Spyder form, the long bonnet, sweeping guards and tapering tail are experienced without interruption, giving the car a purity of line that feels entirely authentic to the late-1930s grand touring ethos. Yet beneath that sculptural exterior lies the same disciplined engineering approach that defines the Devaux program — a properly resolved chassis, modern driveline integration, and real-world usability.
Unlike many coachbuilt curiosities that live exclusively on display plinths, 003 has proven itself as a genuine driver’s car. It has been the guest of numerous high-profile events, including the prestigious Melbourne Motor Classica in 2010, where it attracted sustained interest from collectors and historians alike. More importantly, it successfully completed the Adelaide Rally, demonstrating that the Devaux concept is not fragile theatre but a capable and reliable grand tourer able to withstand competitive road conditions.
Spyder 003 now resides in the hands of a collector in New Zealand, where it continues to represent the marque internationally. Its history of event participation and cross-Tasman ownership reinforces the export viability and practical durability of the Devaux platform — beautiful to look at, but fundamentally engineered to be driven.
